Demineralisation Unit FAQ’s

The Demineralisation process is the removal of all minerals from the raw supply water. Most demineralisation units consist of a sequence of cation exchanger vessels and anion exchangers in which cation or cationic resins in the hydrogen form and anion or anionic resins in the hydroxide form are filled-in respectively. Raw water passes through the cation exchange vessel where cations (calcium, magnesium, sodium etc) are exchanged with hydrogen ions. In the anion exchange vessel, negative ions (chloride, sulfate, hydrocarbonate) are in turn exchanged with hydroxide ions. Hydrogen ions produced in the first stage react with hydroxide ions giving h20._The regeneration process of the ion exchange resins cation and anion takes place when the resins are exhausted. The regeneration is performed with solution of hydrochloric around 32% in strength and caustic soda around 28% in strength.

Mixed-bed deionization process

With industrial water equipments mixed-bed demineralisers the cation and anion exchange resins are mixed and installed in a single pressure vessel constructed of grp or stainless steel. The mixture of cation and anion exchange resin in a single column makes a mixed bed demieraliser equivalent to a larger series of twin bed plants. As a result, the treated water quality from a mixed bed demineraliser is appreciably higher than that produced by a twin bed plant.

Our range of mixed bed demineralisers are more efficient in purifying the incoming raw feed water, mixed bed demins are more sensitive to impurities in the raw water supply and involve a more complex regeneration procedure. Mixed bed demins are normally used to polish the water to better levels of purity after it has been initially treated by either a twin bed demineraliser or a such a process as reverse osmosis.

Electrodeionisation, EDI Electro OR DI Systems are used in conjunction, typically i with reverse osmosis (RO) and other high-end purification equipment. Our high-quality deionization modules continually produce ultra pure water up to 18MW/cm. EDI can be installed to treat water continuously or intermittently.

Can I drink demin or demineralised water?

Demineralised or demin water is very aggressive. It is poor tasting and poor thirst quenching characteristics therefore demineralisation equipment is only found in industrial applications.
Demineralised or demin water will cause adverse health effects due to the deficiency of certain constituents and minerals.

Does Industrial Water Equipment service demineralisation equipment?

Yes, Industrial Water Equipment service our own equipment alongside other manufacturers equipment. We have many engineers across the UK and Ireland qualified and experienced to service all your water treatment and effluent treatment equipment.

Can Industrial Water Equipment change my resin in my demin

Yes, Industrial Water Equipment can change any resins and replace them with the existing type or offer alternatives which can save money and increase efficiency.

We also offer a resin cleaning program which can sometimes prevent the capitol outlay of replacing resin.
Will Industrial Water Equipment guarantee the quality of the treated water if I purchase a new demineraliser?
Yes, unlike most of our competitors who will only advise on expected treated water quality, Industrial Water equipment will give you a guaranteed value that the new equipment will achieve. We will give you the water quality at the point of quotation.

How do I get spares for my demineralisation unit

As with all Industrial Water Equipments plant it is manufactured in Ireland or the UK using quality parts only sourced in Ireland and UK giving our customers the advantage of buying spares direct from us or direct from well known suppliers such as RS or Grundfoss etc.
