Thank you for purchasing an Industrial Water Equipment ultraviolet disinfection water system. This manual will help you get the very best from your new system. It covers the installation, operation and maintenance of your new UV system.

PLEASE READ ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE BEGINNING TO INSTALL OR TURN ON THE EQUIPMENT. THIS IS TO KEEP YOU AND THE EQUIPMENT SAFE.

Applications

Drinking Water, water tank rainwater, medical and industrial.

The IWE-SPS UV Water Filter is a combined filtration and UV sterilisation system. The whole range consists of 4 models. Each model in the range is capable of removing impurities and provide you with safe potable water. The SPS range can also be used in conjunction with other pre-filtration or UV serialisation if required.

The IWE SPS range consists of a 3 stage filtration process.

  1. Course filtration cartridge :

To remove impurities bigger than 20 micron

  1. Fine filtration cartridge :

To remove impurities and sediment over 1 micron in size. This ultra fine filtration is capable of removing parasitic cysts including Giardia and Cryptosporidium.

  1. UV Steralisation

The UV steralisation of the 3 stage filtration process will inactivate bacteria, viruses and pathogens.

Installation

Please ensure you have all the necessary components are enclosed in your order to achieve a successful installation and operation.

Your package contents should include :

Stainless Steel reactor.

  • UV Lamp
  • Quartz Sleeve
  • Ballast Controller
  • Cartridge Filter housing
  • Water Pressure Gauge
  • O-Ring
  • Washer

Release the black knob located on the side of the frame in order to open the top cover

sps-manual2

Use a screw driver to open the plastic cap

sps-manual3

Remove the two nuts

sps-manual4

Remove the bottom nut

sps-manual5

Insert the Quartz tube into the reactor chamber. Handle the Quartz tube carefully. The glass can easily be damaged

sps-manual6

Screw the end nut back onto the reactor chamber.

sps-manual7

Hand tight is sufficient to create the correct seal – tools for tightening should NOT be used.

sps-manual8

Insert the UV lamp into the Quartz tube through the end nut.

sps-manual9

Replace the top cover cap and tighten the set screw on the nut.

sps-manual10

Install the earth cable

sps-manual11

Install the cartridge filters into the plastic filter housings. Use the filter wrench proved to loosen or tighten the housings.

sps-manual12

Ensure all plumbing connections are correctly made, gradually switch on the water supply keeping a check for any leaks

Allow water to flow though the UV in order to flush any dust or debris which may be enclosed within the reactor.

Connect the UV to 240V Mains electrical power

When connected to power DO NOT remove the UV lamp from the chamber.

The IWE SPS Series is designed for continuous operation. Frequent powering off of the UV will dramatically reduce the lifespan of the UV bulb. DO NOT perform more than 3 on/off cycles in any 24hour period.

System operation

1 – Guidelines for water quality.

The IWE SPS Series UV Water Filter is intended for use with visually clear water. The incoming feed should not be coloured, cloudy or turbid.

  • Ambient Water Temperature: 2-45℃
  • Iron: <0.3ppm (0.3mg/l)
  • Hardness: <7gpg (120mg/l)
  • Turbidity: <1NTU
  • Manganese: 0.05ppm (0.05mg/l)
  • UV Transmittance: >75%

2 – Check all connections and fittings prior to powering on your system for the 1st time.

3 – If you visually see any damage to either the Quartz sleeve or UV Lamp do not power on the unit. Please call us to arrange for replacement parts.

4 – The IWE SPS Series UV Water Filter is designed for continuous operation DO NOT perform more than 3 on/off cycles in any 24hour period.

5  – If your IWE SPS Series UV Water Filter becomes submerged in water power off the unit and retrieve. Do not attempt to use the UV filter before contacting Industrial Water Equipment for further advice.

6  – Do not operate your IWE SPS Series UV Water Filter if the electrical cord becomes damaged or the unit has been dropped or otherwise damaged in any way.

7  – Your IWE SPS Series UV Water Filter is designed for use after the filter on the return line.

8  – Always disconnect the mains water supply and drain the Filter if the unit is subject to temperatures below 0ºC for an extended period of time.

Important safeguards

symbol1Risk of severe or fatal electrical shock when water is in close proximity to this electrical system. User must always disconnect power before performing any maintenance on this system.
symbol2This UV system must be grounded.
symbol3Always wear protective eye and skin wear. Germicidal ultraviolet rays are harmful to the eyes and skin, exposure should be avoided.
symbol4CAUTION: Risk of burning due to heat from the lamp when in use. Never touch the lamp directly; we advise always wearing protective gloves.

UV light is not visible to the human eye, however it is harmful to eyes and skin. Never look directly at the light tube while device is in operation. Do not remove the UV Lamp from the Reactor Chamber when applying electrical power.

Always wear safety goggles if you need to look at the light in operation.

Basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock. Make sure the leakage protection switch is installed before use.

The UV lamp will become very hot when in use. Please do not touch the bulb when in operation. If the UV bulb requires replacement, please allow a sufficient amount of time for the unit to cool down before attempting replacement.

Maintenance

Monthly operational test

Lamp replacement is recommended after every 9000 hours of operation. The UV bulb may still operate after the recommended replacement time, however the intensity of the light will be greatly diminished.

Clean the Quartz sleeve every 3 to 6 months with either alcohol or a mild detergent

Warranty for the UV Chamber is 2 Years.

The UV Lamp and Quartz sleeve is 1 Year
