ro chemicals - CLEANERS

IWE CC1 is a fast acting, broad-spectrum biocide used for cleaning Reverse Osmosis and Nano-Filtration membranes. It can be used both on and off-line to eliminate microbiological fouling. When used in potable water applications, IWE CC1 should be used ‘off-line’. IWE CC1 is also effective in removing biofilm from pumps, tanks and pipe-work. Best results are obtained when IWE CC1 is used at a pH 5.5 – 7.0. Residual IWE CC1 can be deactivated to harmless byproducts by using sodium bisulphite. IWE CC1 is readily biodegradable in the environment; the degradation rate is enhanced at increasing pH and temperature.

Application

When used ‘off-line’ as a membrane cleaner, IWE CC1 should be dosed at 40 – 80mg/l for periods up to 60 minutes. When used ‘on-line’ in non-potable applications IWE CC1 should be dosed at 100 – 200mg/l for 30 minutes. Pre-diluting IWE CC1 prior to use is not recommended as this will cause rapid degradation of the solution and loss of efficacy.

IWE CC12 has been developed as a general-purpose cleaner for a wide range of organic based foulants found in Reverse Osmosis and Nano-filtration membrane systems. IWE CC12 is particularly effective against aluminium silicate, which can be difficult to remove with conventional cleaners. It is also effective against most micro-organisms such as bacteria, fungi and algae.

Application

IWE CC12 should be used as a 1 – 2% solution at a stabilised pH of 11.8 – 12.3 in membranes with ‘light’ organic fouling. IWE CC12 should be alternately soaked and recycled through the membrane system for 2 – 4 hours; cleaning with warm solutions considerably improves the cleaning performance. After cleaning, the membrane system should be thoroughly flushed, until the pH values of the feed and the discharge are the same. Cleaning solutions of IWE CC12 will have a tendency to foam. IWE CC12 contains bubble generating technology to gently agitate and lift membrane foulants away from the surface increasing cleaning efficiency IWE CC12 is readily soluble in water. Solutions of IWE CC12 should be used immediately after preparation.

Health and Safety

IWE CC12 is a powder blend of mixed cleaners, including a surfactant, a biodegradable sequestrant, an inorganic phosphate and a rapidly deactivated biocide. It is compatible with carbon steel and commonly used materials of construction found in membrane plants and CIP installations. Protective clothing should be used. A material safety data sheet is available on request.

RO CHEMICALS - Flocculants

IWE FL1 is designed to act as a combined biocide and flocculant, reducing the effects of colloids, bacteria and alga on membrane systems. It is a low molecular weight flocculant for use in surface, well and process waters of medium to high SDI. IWE FL1 is designed specifically for use in feed waters susceptible to algal growth such as open reservoirs and ponds.

Application

IWE FL1 can be diluted and is fully miscible with water in all proportions. IWE FL1 should be dosed continuously to the feed water, at a turbulent location to ensure good mixing before the sand or multi-media filters. IWE FL1 dose rate can be accurately determined with jar testing and SDI analysis. Typical dose rate of IWE FL1 is 2 – 10 mg/l during normal plant operation.

Health and Safety

IWE FL1 is an aqueous solution of a cationic homopolymer. It is mildly corrosive to carbon steel so recommended materials for storage tanks etc. include stainless steel, fibre glass, polyethylene and polypropylene. Observe all safety precautions shown in the material safety data sheet, available on request.

Packaging

Available as 25 ltr keg, 250 ltr drum or 1000 ltr IBC.

The shelf life is two years under normal storage conditions. IWE FL1 is a viscous liquid at low temperatures

To minimise membrane fouling and reduce cleaning frequency the silt density index (SDI) should be kept as low as possible. IWE FL2 can be used to improve the performance of filtration equipment and has been developed as a general-purpose flocculant for use in surface, well and process waters with medium to high SDI values. IWE FL2 is compatible with polyamide membranes and does not foul membranes like conventional iron and aluminium based coagulants.

Application

IWE FL2 should be dosed continuously to the feed water allowing at least 5 minutes contact time before filtration. Dose rate can be optimised by on site jar testing and SDI analysis. Typical dose rate of IWE FL2 is 1- 4 mg/L. IWE FL2 can be diluted and is fully miscible with water in all proportions.

Health and Safety

IWE FL2 is an aqueous solution of a polyquaternary amine. It is compatible with carbon steel and other commonly used materials of construction. Observe all safety precautions shown in the material safety data sheet, available on request.

IWE FL3 is used to improve the performance of filtration equipment. It has been developed as a general purpose (low molecular weight) flocculant for use in surface, well and process waters of medium to high SDI. IWE FL3 conforms to European Standard EN 1408: 1998 “Chemicals used for treatment of water intended for human consumption – polyDADMAC”. Other flocculants from the IWE product range are available as required.

Application

IWE FL3 can be diluted and is fully miscible with water in all proportions. IWE FL3 should be dosed continuously to the feed water, (at a turbulent location to ensure good mixing) allowing at least five minutes contact time before filtration. IWE FL3 can often reduce and sometimes eliminate the need for the prior addition of inorganic coagulants such as aluminium sulphate, ferric sulphate, etc. Typical dose rate of IWE FL3 is 2 – 5 mg/L.

Health and Safety

IWE FL3 is an aqueous solution of a cationic homopolymer. It is mildly corrosive to carbon steel so recommended materials for storage tanks etc. include stainless steel, fibre glass, polyethylene and polypropylene. A material safety data sheet is available on request.
