Purolite® CT275DR
Macroporous Strong Acid Resin
Catalyst
Purolite CT275DR is a superior
macroporous strong-acid catalyst resin which
has been developed from poly(vinylbenzenesulfonate)
cation exchangers. While ordinary commercial
styrene-based sulphonic acid resins may
often be used for chemical reactions catalyzed
by the H+ ion, faster process times, better
yields and higher product purity may be
obtained by using a properly designed and
purified catalyst resin such as Purolite
CT275DR. It is supplied dried to less than
3% moisture, ready for use. Alternatively
it can be supplied completely water-swollen
as Purolite CT275. Purolite CT275DR has
been specially designed with large pores
for greater accessibility to the acid sites.
The more rigid structure ensures improved
uptake but lower swelling characteristics
in polar solvents compared with competitive
materials, resulting in a higher concentration
of acid sites. This resin is particularly
useful in diffusion-controlled or kinetically-limited
reactions. Purolite CT275 has been qualified
and recommended for tertiary alkyl methyl
ether (TAME) in particular, methyl tertiary
butyl ether (MTBE). It offers distinct advantages
over other commercially available catalysts
with respect to its high acidity and large
pores which provide more available acid
sites and minimize the potential for pore
plugging.
